OKTOBERFEST 2011
Carl and Margaret Haussler put together another great night!
It started off with an emotional tribute to Jerry Carmosin.
Dave Schleyer's choice of words for our dear friend were right on the money. "Jerry was the cornerstone of our organization
and will be sorely missed."
Flowers were then presented to Jerry's wife, Anna.
Also an award was presented to Anna from the Firefighters in York,
Germany. They sent their condolences to Mrs. Carmosin.
Flowers were then presented to Margaret Haussler for her hard work
and making the Dance the success it was. Carl, joined her.
Dave also presented the "Freddy" Award to
hard working Board Member- Mark Mecir. Mark shows up for all of the events and works hard to
make them the success they are. He is well deserved of this award. left to right: Carl Haussler, Tom Mecir, Mark Mecir and Big Dave Here Mark Mecir displays the the Frederick Von Steuben Award
as he flanks his Father, Tom Mecir, two men that know the hard work ethic.

On display behind them is the banner that adorned the 2010 Boat Ride.
This banner was made up by the Steuben Association and Art-Aid.
We had invited a few vets to join us on that Boat Ride.
Captain Mark Little and Capt. Matt Coyne from the US Army
enjoyed a night of fun and frolic. As the cruise shifted into high gear
the banner sat below on a lower deck where those in attendance were encouraged to sign it in support of our troops overseas. They did!
It was presented to Capt. Coyne who in turn secured it and took it back with him to Eastern Afghanistan where the surge was occurring. Matty went back in
October 2010 and returned with it in October 2011. While it was over there
the banner under the watchful eye of Capt. Coyne was transported to many Forward Operating Bases to be displayed. "It was an inspiration to have it at our base", remarked many of the soldiers who viewed it, especially those who were lucky enough to have it at their base on the 10th Anniversary of 9-11-01.
Just 3 weeks before our Oktoberfest, Matty Coyne and fellow soldiers from
Fort Drum in Upstate New York, came home from a tough year in
Afghanistan. Months earlier a plan was devised to have Matt Coyne bring it to the OKTOBERFEST along with some of the elite of the 10th Mountain Division.
Matt along with 5 other members who returned with him made the trip
and arrived on Friday 10/21/11. Captain Mark Little and wife Alicia also arrived.
They came up from Fairfax, Virginia.
On Friday they got to view the 9-11 Memorial and enjoy a hearty dinner at
Suspenders (111 Broadway) courtesy of owner and retired FF Bill Aahearn.
On Saturday they viewed the Brooklyn Wall of Remembrance and later enjoyed lunch at Nathans. On the way back they were whisked over to
Squad One where they enjoyed the FDNY hospitality of this elite SOC Company.
After returning to the city they had plenty of time to rest and then get ready to partake in the Steuben's Festivities, decked out in their Dress Uniforms, oh yeah!,
they were "ready to party"!
Unknown to all they had a few goodies to present to our organization.
Of course they had the banner and that was displayed in front of the room.
They also brought with them a flag that was flown in the face of the enemy
at Bagram Air Field on 9-11-11, the 10th Anniversary of 9-11-01.
Also pictures of the banner were presented at the many different bases.
All of these items were presented to Big Dave and the Steuben Association.
It was a night we will never soon forget.
GOOD FOOD, GOOD FRIENDS, GOOD MUSIC, GOOD DRINK
GOOD PEOPLE!
Without any further ado, here are the pictures of

because not everyone was sitting down...
