2011 WORLD POLICE & FIRE GAMES Are you looking to get involved with a Project?
Do you have extra free time to devote to helping out
with a good cause?
Well we may have just the answer.
Next year New York City will be hosting the
2011 World Police and Fire Games, AND THEY NEED VOLUNTEERS NOW!
The games will be here from
August 26th to September 5th, 2011
Approximately 18,000 Firefighters and Police Officers, both active and retired participate in these events. They represent countries from all over the world,
just as in the Olympics.
There is even an Opening and Closing Ceremony.
These games, the first time on the East Coast, and the first in ten years in the USA will be very special. The events will respectfully precede the 10th Anniversary of 9-11-01 and will be the most memorable ever.
Don't you want to be a part of it?
Joe Brosi, a retired Lt. out of Engine 88 needs our help.
He is the coordinator of the Ambassador Program. This program is about Firefighters helping to host and welcome other Firefighters who will be coming into NY to compete. Over the next 20 months there will be organizers and coaches coming to NY to check out to check out hotels and make arrangements for their Athletes as well as scout the venues. In 2011 it will be the Athletes themselves who will do this task. In the role of a 2011 WPFG Ambassador you will have the opportunity to represent the 2011 World Police and Fire Games,The FDNY,
and New York City.
Your responsibilities may include helping with transportation to and from the airports and hotels, showing off our sport venues and transportation system and every once in awhile you may find a chance for some socializing and Fire Stories. The feedback from the individuals who have been involved has been all positive.
You may also choose to get more involved and help out with any of the 65 Sport or other activities
that will surround the Games.
There is really something for everyone.
During the weeks leading up to the Games and
most definitely during the Games,
we will need close to 5,000 volunteers to make it all happen.
If you would like to become a part of this "T-E-A-M" or if you need more information you can email Joe at: ambassador@2011wpfg.org
or call him at (646) 498-4250.
He hopes to hear from you soon.
This sounds like a unique opportunity to "stay connected'
with "the job", something many retiree organizations strive to do in their programs.
Well here is your chance to do just that.
So get involved!
